Default Auto top off ?

Has anyone every tapped into your house water line to run the auto top off ? I don't use RO water Can it be done, or do you worry too much about it sticking and flooding the house ? The person getting my tank was asking about it.

I did it at my old house for a year with no problems. The "safer" way if you want to try that is to use multiple float switches for redundency. Also the float switches do wear out, so replacement every year or two isn't a bad idea either.

I wouldn't do it that way since there'd be an endless amount of water that could keep flowing. She could setup a 10+ gallon tank or storage container near / under the tank that could automatically top off the tank. that way she'd only need to fill that once a week or so.

Ditto... agree with Dennis.

Mark and Brandan both suffered with a fresh water washdown... Mark lost everything, Brandan was able to move most out before death... control the possible damage by only using a container of top off vice the water line. Just sayin'...

I figured something had to be bad with the idea since none of you had it already . Thanks !

When was the last time you replaced your float switches?

When I moved into my house, I changed them out. Mine are currently set up so both must be working in order for water to flow, but only one has to be floating in order to kill the top-off. The 45 is running on a single switch for now, had to rush it together before an extended trip.

If you set the float switches up with the output of one feeding to the input of the next it will work like I said:

+ voltage ---> Float switch ------> float switch -----> relay ----> - voltage
